INTRODUCTION
/ FAQ
Some really quick
background information.
A few years ago I started
going to drive-in movie theaters. I started going more and
more often. But it was still only a casual hobby.
Outside of several childhood memories I had no knowledge of the
business.
Upon gaining access to the
web, I found TONS of information about drive-ins all over, past
and present. I started to find myself becoming obsessed with
them. Eventually a 3-hour drive to attend a drive-in
sounded reasonable. (Granted, those are usually ONE time
deals, as I am fortunate enough to live within an hour of three
drive-ins and another three only 30 minutes beyond those.)
Yeah
yeah, get on with it! WHY ANOTHER drive-in
page?
Several friends have been
after me to build a page. EVERYONE seems to have one but
me, so the pressure was on to make one. I have NO
EXPERIENCE with this at all. This is my FIRST EVER
ATTEMPT. (So take it easy on me if you e-mail me with
comments, ok?)
I needed something to have
a webpage about. So it was suggested I combine my interest
in drive-ins with this webpage venture. I resisted this
idea because there are many excellent pages already out there on
the topic. (For a list of some of the pages, a LINKS page
will be posted in the future.) I surfed many of these pages
and found they were nothing short of awesome! I did not
want my very first feeble attempt to be compared with the
existing ones. But then I thought "Oh well.
SOMEBODY might like it."
I certainly do not have
the time, knowledge or know-how to put up such comprehensive
pages. (Besides, that's already been done.) So I
didn't know how to attack this. That would soon be remedied
when I found Sal Garcia's Southern
California's Drive-Ins. I saw how he specialized in a particular
region. I live in an area that was loaded with drive-ins
too. Twenty years ago there were FOURTEEN drive-ins within
an hour of my house. (That I know of.) SIX of those
were within 30 minutes!
I had the idea, now all I
needed was to get started on it. With the final
encouragement coming from Sal himself, ("Go ahead. Try it.
It's easy!") I decided to try this.
What you see is the
beginning of this. Hope you'll like it (if I ever get any
more done to it.)
You missed one! What about the
one that used to be over by.......
As anyone who has ever
tried to find out information about drive-ins from the past will
tell you.....It is NOT easy. There is very little
documentation and the main resource tends to be people's
memories. And this often leads to conflicting reports.
I do not know every
drive-in ever built. But I keep finding more and will try
to document as many as I can find.
In reference to Southern
Pennsylvania/Northern Maryland drive-ins (both past and present)
should you have information and/or pictures about one I do not
list, and would like to share it with the world E-mail me.
That's not the year that
opened/closed! Where'd you get that?
I am not claiming that ALL
the information on this page is 100% correct. It's correct
to the best of my knowledge. [Insert joke here.] I
will try to list the sources for where I found the
information. So should you KNOW that the information is
blatantly incorrect, E-mail me.
You will be credited with
any information/pictures/materials etc that you provide, unless
you request otherwise.
